About

Living within the Earth’s planetary boundaries in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

The 3 Counties Doughnut is a group aiming to develop practical ways to reduce our impact collectively so that we can live within planetary boundaries while meeting the needs of people and the natural world, while at the same time recognising the need to adapt to a changing climate and the loss of nature. The group meets regularly in Much Marcle, Herefordshire.

The 3 Counties Doughnut is currently focussed on the rural settlements between the River Severn and River Wye.

The Doughnut Economics framework, developed by Kate Raworth, provides a practical way for us to collectively identify the building blocks that matter for our wellbeing, and how we can pursue these outcomes in way that is attuned to the natural environment and ecosystem that we are privileged to inhabit.

  • How do we ensure that we have a strong and vibrant community so that we can adapt to the changing climate and instability in food production?
  • How do we reconnect with nature in a fundamental way?
  • How do we ensure the wellbeing of all people in the 3 Counties?
  • How can people in the 3 Counties travel in an accessible, equitable and sustainable way?
  • Can art and culture be a way to bring about social and economic change to live sustainably?

Doughnut Economics offers a vision of what it means for humanity and the planet to thrive in the 21st century by exploring new ways of thinking.

“For over 70 years economics has been fixated on GDP, or national output, as its primary measure of progress. That fixation has been used to justify extreme inequalities of income and wealth coupled with unprecedented destruction of the living world. For the twenty-first century a far bigger goal is needed: meeting the human rights of every person within the means of our life-giving planet.” – Kate Raworth
